Driveability Test Procedure - START HERE

The driveability test procedure is made up of Four categories. They are as follows:
1. Visual Inspection
2. No Start
3. Driveability Test Cold
4. Driveability Test Warm
It is not necessary to perform all the categories for every driveability problem. Selection of what category to use will be determined by the owner's description of when the problem occurred, was the engine cold or was it warm?

NOTE: Do not be concerned about the actual symptom. Since one or more of the engine control systems can produce the same symptom, just find out when the engine did not run right.

The following is the recommended categories that should be used:
1. Engine Will Not Start
a. Visual Inspection
b. No Start
2. Cold Driveability Problem
a. Visual Inspection
b. Driveability Tests
3. Warm Driveability Problem
a. Visual Inspection
b. Driveability Tests
Once the problem has been determined, perform the test procedure categories using the following guidelines:
1. Each category is made up of many Tests. Always start at test one of the category. Starting at any other test will only give incorrect results.
2. Each test may have many Steps. Only perform the Steps indicated under Action Required. It is not necessary to perform all the Steps in a test. If you do, the problem will not be found. Some steps may have Reminders. These are to inform you that previous instructions are still required.
3. At the end of each Test (not step) reconnect all wires and hoses, turn the engine off, and reinstall any components that were removed for testing.
4. The vehicle being tested must have a fully charged battery.
5. In performing the cold test, the engine must not be started for at least 7 hours.
6. In performing the warm test the engine must be at normal operating temperature.
7. Never use a test light in place of a voltmeter.
