SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Some vehicles equipped with the KM132-N manual transmissions may emit a buzzing noise through the gearshift lever during acceleration.
The noise condition was corrected in production with a new shift lever using a one-piece rubber damper. This change entered transmission production on January, 1989 and affects transmission serial No. KM132-EX0856 and later.
Figure 1:
DIAGNOSIS Road test vehicle to verify that noise complaint is an acceleration shift lever buzz condition. Measure the diameter of the shift lever in the area shown in Figure 1.
If the shift lever diameter is 30 to 32 mm (1-1/4 inches), perform the following repair procedure.
If the shift lever diameter is 41 to 42 mm (1-5/8 inches) the shift lever is not the source of the noise. Inspect the exhaust system and engine mounting system as possible source of the noise condition.
