Service Procedure

A. Replace the Spark Control Computer (SCC)

1. Remove the air cleaner cover.

2. With the ignition key in the OFF position, disconnect the battery negative cable.

3. Disconnect the SCC electrical connectors.



4. Disconnect the vacuum line to the SCC vacuum transducer.

5. Remove and save the SCC attaching screws from the inside of the air cleaner body. Remove the SCC and save for return to the parts return center.

6. Install the supplied SCC. Tighten the attaching screws securely.

7. Connect the vacuum line to the SCC vacuum transducer.

8. Connect the SCC electrical connectors.

9. Reconnect the battery.

10. Reinstall the air cleaner cover.

B. Replace the Transmission Throttle Rod and Lever

NOTE:
Perform the following procedure while the engine is at normal operating temperature or make sure the carburetor is not on the fast idle cam.

1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.





2. Loosen the swivel lock screw (Figure 1).



3. Remove the throttle rod from the swivel and disconnect it from the bellcrank. Discard the rod and save the spring for reinstallation.

4. Remove the swivel from the lever and save for reinstallation.

5. Remove and discard the lever.

6. Install the supplied lever.

7. Attach the swivel to the new lever, reusing the swivel clip.

8. Connect the supplied throttle rod to the bellcrank.

9. Install the spring on the throttle rod and insert the rod into the swivel.

NOTE:
The swivel must be free to slide along the flat end of the throttle rod so that the preload spring action is not restricted.

10. Hold the transmission lever firmly forward against its internal stop and tighten the swivel lock screw to 100 in.lbs. (11 N-m).

11. Lower the vehicle.
