Heater Core: Service and Repair

Fig. 25 Heater Core Replacement:





1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Place temperature control lever in warm position, then drain cooling system and disconnect heater hoses.
3. Remove floor console, then the instrument panel, refer to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators/Instrument Panel/Service and Repair.
4. Remove center ventilator and lap heater ducts, then the center reinforcement.
5. Disconnect mode selection, temperature control and air selection cables.
6. Remove heater unit.
7. Unlock water valve lever clip, then disconnect link for blend air damper from water valve lever.
8. Remove pipe clamp, joint hose clamp, joint hose and screws, then the water valve.
9. Remove plate, then the heater core from heater unit. It may be necessary to remove damper lever to allow clearance for heater core removal.

10. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Place mode selector lever in defrost/vent position, then with mode selection damper lever pressed in direction indicated by arrow connect mode selection control wire to lever and secure outer cable using clip.
b. Place temperature control lever in "COOL" position, then with blend air damper lever pressed in direction indicated by arrow connect temperature control wire to lever and secure outer cable using clip.
c. Place air selection lever in recirculation position, then with air selection damper lever pressed in direction indicated by arrow connect air selection control wire to lever and secure outer cable using clip.
