The brake master cylinder and the related master cylinder repair kit has been changed to eliminate the check valves (Figure 1). The master cylinders, whether they are equipped with or without check valves, are interchangeable, if it is necessary to replace a master cylinder.


The revised master cylinder repair kit superseded the original kit and may be used for either master cylinder.

NOTE: WHEN USING THE NEW MASTER CYLINDER REPAIR KIT (WITHOUT CHECK VALVES) IN A MASTER CYLINDER THAT WAS ORIGINALLY EQUIPPED WITH CHECK VALVES, IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO REPLACE THE TUBE SEAT AND CHECK VALVE CASE TO FACILITATE BLEEDING (FIGURE 2). THESE PARTS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE REPAIR KIT AND MUST BE ORDERED SEPARATELY.

NOTE: (1) The part is serviced only in kit or assembly if its part number is in parentheses.

(2) Tube seat (7) and check valve case (8) are interchangeable if replaced with check valve (5) and check valve spring (6) eliminated.

(3) When the check valve and check valve spring are eliminated from the master cylinder on the sold vehicle, be sure to replace the tube seat and check valve case with new parts (parts having their fluid passages changed) for ease of air bleeding.
