Technician Safety Information
^ Certain components of the ABS system are not intended to be serviced individually. Attempting to remove or disconnect certain components, such as the hydraulic accumulator and valve block, may result in personal injury and/or improper system operation. Only those components with approved removal and installation procedures should be serviced.^ Some service procedures require that the hydraulic lines, hoses, and fittings be disconnected. The system uses a hydraulic accumulator that, when fully charged contains brake fluid under high pressure. Be sure the accumulator is fully discharged when disconnecting lines, hoses, and fittings. Failure to do so will result in personal injury or damage to painted services.
^ The brake assembly should be cleaned using a vacuum recommended for use with asbestos fibers. The vacuum bag must be labeled according to OSHA instructions. Technicians should wear toxic dust purifying respirators.
^ Illumination of the red BRAKE warning lamp may indicate reduced braking ability. A vehicle that has the BRAKE warning lamp "on" should not be driven except to perform diagnostic procedures.
