Engine: Service and Repair
ENGINE REMOVAL
To remove engine, vehicle must be placed on a grease rack and suitable supports positioned in the front of the car.
THE TRANSAXLE MUST BE REMOVED FROM BELOW:
(1) Disconnect battery and drain oil and cooling system.
(2) Remove radiator and pan assembly.
(3) Disconnect fuel lines and accelerator cables.
(4) Disconnect all electrical connection from engine and alternator.
(5) Remove air conditioning compressor from its mounting WITHOUT disconnecting the connections and hoses. Set aside in engine compartment.
(6) Remove power steering pump without disconnecting hoses and set aside.
(7) Detach the air hose to the turbocharger and the intercooler hoses.
(8) Disconnect the exhaust pipe at the manifold.
(9) Disconnect clutch cable and transmission linkage.
(10) Remove 4 retaining bolts of the steering gear mounting, and move as far back as possible without disconnecting hoses.
(11) Support transmission with transmission jack.
(12) Disconnect the lateral drive shafts.
(13) While supporting the engine-transmission assembly, detach the front and side engine- transmission assembly mounts and remove the assembly out from beneath the car.
If only the engine is to be removed, place a suitable support under the transmission and remove the bolts securing the transmission to the engine.
ENGINE INSTALLATION
Reverse removal procedure and tighten all fasteners to prescribed torque settings.
