Air Injection: Description and Operation

Air Injection System:

Aspirator Valve:

Purpose

The Air Aspiration System reduces Carbon monoxide (CO) and Hydrocarbon (HC) emissions.

Operation

The aspirator valve, a one-way spring loaded diaphragm, opens during negative exhaust pressure (vacuum) pulses to admit fresh air from the air cleaner into the exhaust system.

When pressure in the exhaust system is positive, the valve closes, preventing exhaust gases from entering the system, protecting the rubber hoses.

The aspirator valve works most efficiently at idle and slightly above idle when negative pressure (vacuum) pulses are maximum. At higher engine speeds the aspirator valve is designed to remain closed.

CONSTRUCTION
