Fog/Driving Lamp: Description and Operation
On vehicles equipped with optional fog lamps, a lamp internal to the cluster is illuminated when the system is turned ON. The lamp is powered by the fog lamp switch on circuit L39. Ground for the lamp is provided on the Z1 circuit and terminates at the instrument panel left side cowl. The fog lamps operate only when the headlamp switch is in the ON position and the operator has selected low-beam operation. When the headlamps are in high-beam mode, the fog lamps will not operate.
Power for the fog lamps originates in Power Distribution Center (PDC). Circuit A3 from the PDC supplies power to the headlamp switch. The A3 circuit is protected by a 40 amp fuse located in cavity 15. When the headlamps are in the ON position circuit A3 is connected to circuit L4. Circuit L4 is used to supply power for the right and left low-beam headlamp fuses.
The fog lamp switch is powered by the L44 circuit. This circuit is protected by a 10 amp fuse located in cavity 13 of the junction block. Circuit L44 also is the feed for the right low-beam headlamp.
When the headlamps are ON, and the operator selects the fog lamps ON, circuits L44 and L39 are connected through the fog lamp switch. Circuit L39 connects from the fog lamp switch to the right and left fog lamps. Ground for the lamps is different for the right and left lamps.
For the right fog lamp, the ground is provided on circuit Z1 and terminates at the right frame rail. For the left fog lamp, the ground is provided on circuit Z1 and terminates at the left strut tower.
