Cylinder Head Assembly: Specifications

GENERAL DIMENSIONS

Gasket Thickness (Compressed): 1.15 mm (0.045 inch)
Cylinder Head/Block Surface Warpage Limit: 0.1 mm (0.004 inch)
Valve Seat Angle: 44.5 - 45°
Width (Finished) Intake /Exhaust: 0.9 - 1.3 mm (0.035 - 0.051 inch)
Valve Guide Diameter I.D.: 5.975 - 6.000 mm (0.235 - 0.236 inch)
Guide Bore Diameter: 11.0 - 11.02 mm (0.4330 - 0.4338 inch)

CYLINDER HEAD BOLT RE-USABILITY

1. Cylinder head bolts should be carefully examined before reuse. If the threads are necked down, the bolts should be replaced.





NOTE: Necking can be checked by holding a scale or straight edge against the threads. If all the threads do not contact the scale, the bolt should be replaced.

2. Before installing the bolts, the threads should be oiled with clean engine oil.


CYLINDER HEAD TIGHTENING SEQUENCE/SPECIFICATIONS

Cylinder Head Tightening Sequence - L4 DOHC:





1. Before installing the bolts the threads should be oiled with engine oil. The 4 short bolts 110 mm (4.330 inch) are to be installed in positions 7, 8, 9, and 10.
2. Tighten the cylinder head bolts in sequence shown. Follow the four step procedure listed below:
- Step 1: Bolts 1 - 6 to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.) and flip 7 - 10 to 28 Nm (20 ft. lbs.)
- Step 2: Bolts 1 - 6 to 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.) and bolts 7 - 10 to 28 Nm (20 ft. lbs.)
- Step 3: Bolts 1 - 6 to 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.) and bolts 7 - 10 to 28 Nm (20 ft. lbs.)
- Step 4: Turn all bolts an additional 90° (1/4 turn). Do not use a torque wrench for this step.

INTAKE MANIFOLD

Torque:
Mounting Bolts 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.)

Flatness:
Standard 0.15 mm (0.006 inch) or less
Wear Limit 0.2 mm (0.008 inch)

EXHAUST MANIFOLD

Torque:
Manifold To Exhaust Pipe 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.)
Manifold Flange (LEV) 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.)
Mounting Bolts 23 Nm (200 inch lbs.)

CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR SPROCKET

Torque:
Pulley Bolt 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.)

CAMSHAFT BEARING CAP

Camshaft Bearing Cap-Torque Sequence:






1. Lubricate bearing journals and cam followers with clean oil and install the camshafts. Install right and left camshaft bearing caps #2 thru #5 and right #6. Tighten M6 fasteners to 12 N.m (105 in. lbs.) in sequence.

Camshaft Bearing Cap Sealing:





2. Apply Mopar Gasket Maker to No.1 and No.6 bearing caps. Install bearing caps and tighten M8 fasteners to 24 N.m (215 in. lbs.).

3. Bearing cap number 1, must be installed before the camshaft seals can be installed.
