Component Tests and General Diagnostics

1. Before inspection, set vehicles in the following condition
^ Engine coolant temperature: 80 - 95 °C (176 - 203 °F)
^ Lights*, electric cooling fan, and accessories: OFF
^ Transaxle: Neutral (P range on vehicles with A/T)
2. Set up the tachometer or connect the scan tool to the data link connector.
3. Attach a three-way joint to the vacuum hose connected between the intake manifold plenum and the fuel pressure solenoid valve and connect a vacuum gauge.
4. Start the engine, and check that the curb idle speed is within 800 ±100 rpm
5. Check the manifold vacuum should be a minimum of 60 kPa (18 in.Hg)

* In vehicles for Canada, the headlight, tail light, etc will remain lit even when the lighting switch is turned OFF but this is no problem.
