Engine: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Remove hood.
2. Release fuel line pressure. Refer to Powertrain Management.
3. Remove radiator assembly. Refer to Cooling System.
4. Remove front exhaust pipe. Refer to Exhaust System.
5. Remove Transaxle assembly. Refer to Transmission and Drivetrain.
6. Follow removal steps in illustrations noting the following.
7. Remove the A/C compressor with hose attached.
NOTE: Use wire or similar material to suspend the removed A/C compressor. Check that nothing around it will be damaged during removal/installation of the engine assembly.
8. Support the engine with a garage jack.
9. Remove the mechanical hanger (recommended tool) which was attached when removing the transaxle assembly.
10. Hold the engine assembly with a chain block or similar tool.
11. Place a garage jack against the engine oil pan with a piece of wood in between, jack up the engine so that the weight of the engine is no longer being applied to the engine mount bracket, and then remove the engine mount bracket.
12. Remove power steering oil pump and bracket assembly. Do not disconnect hoses to remove the power steering oil pump and bracket assembly.
NOTE: Use a wire or similar material to suspend the removed power steering oil pump and bracket assembly. Check that nothing around it will be damaged during removal/installation of the engine assembly.
13. Remove engine assembly while checking that all cables, hoses and harness connectors, etc. are disconnected from the engine, and then lift the chain block slowly to remove the engine assembly upward from the engine compartment.
INSTALLATI0N
1. Install engine using reverse of removal procedure, noting the following.
2. Install engine assembly being sure not to pinch the cables, hoses, and harness connectors while installing the engine assembly.
3. Place a garage jack against the engine oil pan with a piece of wood in between, and install the engine mount bracket while positioning the engine.
4. Attach the engine mount bracket so that the arrow mark on the engine mount stopper is in the direction as shown in the illustration.
5. Use a garage jack to support the engine.
6. Remove the chain block and use the mechanical hanger (recommended tool) to support the engine assembly.
7. Perform accelerator cable adjustment. Refer to Powertrain Management.
