Windows: Description and Operation

WINDOW MOTOR
Power Window Motor
The power window lift motors are located inside the door panels. They are mounted to the window regulators and can be serviced separately.

A battery positive and negative connection to either of the two motor terminals will cause the motor to rotate in one direction. Reversing current through these same two connections will cause the motor to rotate in the opposite direction. Each individual motor is grounded through the master switch.

In addition, each power window motor is equipped with an integral self-resetting circuit breaker to protect the motor from overloads. The power window motor and gearbox assembly cannot be repaired and, if faulty or damaged, the entire window regulator assembly must be replaced.

WINDOW SWITCH
The power windows are controlled by two-way switches integral to the power door lock/window switch and bezel on the trim panel of each door.

The driver door power window switch has an Auto-Down feature. The switch is equipped with two detent positions when actuating the power window OPEN. The first detent position allows the window to roll down and stop when the switch is released. The second detent position actuates and integral express roll down relay that rolls the window down after the switch is released.

The AUTO feature can be cancelled by actuating the switch UP or DOWN while the window is in motion.

A second power window switch in the driver side switch and bezel allows the driver to control the passenger side window. A Light Emitting Diode (LED) in the paddle of each switch is illuminated whenever the ignition switch is in the ON position.

The power window switches control the ignition and ground feeds to the power window motors.

The power door lock/window switch and bezel cannot be repaired and, if faulty for damaged, the entire switch and bezel must be replaced.
