A/C Compressor Replacement

REMOVAL

WARNING: REFER TO THE APPLICABLE WARNINGS AND CAUTIONS FOR THIS SYSTEM BEFORE PERFORMING THE FOLLOWING OPERATION.

1. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system.
2. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
3. Remove the radiator fan assembly.
4. Remove the nut that secures the suction line fitting to the top of the compressor.
5. Disconnect the suction line fitting from the compressor suction port.
6. Remove the seal from the suction line fitting and discard.
7. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened suction line fitting and the compressor suction port.
8. Remove the nut that secures the discharge line fitting to the top of the compressor.
9. Disconnect the discharge line fitting from the compressor discharge port.
10. Remove the seal from the discharge line fitting and discard.
11. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened discharge line fitting and the compressor discharge port.
12. Remove the serpentine accessory drive belt from the front of the engine.
13. Disconnect the engine wire harness connector for the compressor clutch coil from the coil pigtail wire connector on the top of the compressor.
14. Disengage the retainer on the engine wire harness compressor clutch coil take out from the bracket on the top of the compressor.

A/C Compressor:




15. Remove the four bolts that secure the compressor to the engine compressor mounting bracket and support the compressor.
16. Raise and support the vehicle.
17. Remove the underside compressor splash shield push pins and the splash shield.
18. Remove the four A/C compressor mount bolts and remove the compressor mount from the engine.
19. Remove the compressor from the engine compartment.

NOTE: If a replacement compressor is being installed, be certain to drain and measure the refrigerant oil contained in the removed compressor. This will determine how much oil the replacement compressor must contain before it is installed.

INSTALLATION
1. Install the A/C compressor mount onto the engine.
2. Install the four A/C compressor mount bolts to the engine. Two to the engine block and two to the oil pan. Torque the bolts to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.).
3. Position the A/C compressor to the mounting bracket.
4. Install the underside compressor splash shield and the push-pin fasteners.
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Loosely install the four bolts that secure the compressor to the engine. Tighten each of the bolts using the following sequence to 33 Nm (25 ft. lbs.).
- The upper bolt at the front of the compressor.
- The lower bolt at the front of the compressor.
- The upper bolt at the rear of the compressor.
- The lower bolt at the rear of the compressor.

7. Engage the retainer on the engine wire harness compressor clutch coil to the bracket on the top of the compressor.
8. Reconnect the engine wire harness connector for the compressor clutch coil to the coil wire harness connector on the top of the compressor.
9. Install the serpentine drive belt to the front of the engine.
10. Remove plugs or tape from the discharge line fitting and the compressor discharge port.
11. Install new seal to the discharge line fitting.
12. Connect the discharge line fitting to the compressor discharge port.
13. Install the nut that secures the discharge line fitting to the top of the compressor.
14. Remove plugs or tape from the suction line fitting and the compressor suction port.
15. Install new seal to the suction line fitting and the compressor suction port.
16. Connect the suction line fitting to the compressor suction port.
17. Install the nut that secures the suction line fitting to the top of the compressor.
18. Install the radiator fan assembly.
19. Connect the battery negative cable.
20. Evacuate the refrigerant system.
21. Charge the refrigerant system.
