Popping Sound From The Side Window Area

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves drilling out a rivet and replacing it with a screw and nut.

MODELS:

2004 - 2005 (ZH) Crossfire Coupe

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The vehicle operator may describe a popping sound from either side window area.

DIAGNOSIS:

If the vehicle operator describes the Symptom/Condition, perform the Repair Procedure on the appropriate side.





PARTS REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Open the door on the side with the sound.





2. Pull out the weatherstrip from the upper rear corner of the door opening (Fig. 1).

NOTE:
In the figure below the left side is shown, the right side is typical.

3. Using a 6 mm (0.23 in.) drill, drill out the rivet at the quarter glass upper attachment point (Fig. 1).

NOTE:
To avoid debris falling into the vehicle, catch the rivet debris and rivet washer using a suitable container.

4. In place of the rivet, install the screw, p/n 06104141AA, and nut, p/n 05125765AA, with the nut facing inside the vehicle. Tighten the nut to 10 N.m (88 in. lbs.).

5. Install the weatherstrip.

6. Close the door.
