Suspension - Front End Squeaking Sound

SUBJECT:
Squeaking Sound From Front Suspension

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves cleaning and lubricating the frame to stabilizer bar bushings.

MODELS:

2005 (ZH) Crossfire Coupe/Crossfire Roadster

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles built on or after November 1, 2004 (MDH 1101XX) through and including November 8, 2004 (MDH 1108XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The vehicle operator may describe a squeaking sound coming from the front of the vehicle.

DIAGNOSIS:

If the vehicle operator describes the Symptom/Condition, perform the Repair Procedure.





PARTS REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Remove the engine lower shield.





2. Remove the stabilizer bar retainer brackets and nuts from the right and left lower control arms (Fig. 1).

3. Remove the stabilizer bar bracket and nuts and bolts from the inner retainer brackets.

4. Remove the stabilizer bar from the vehicle.

5. Remove all rubber bushings (# 3 and # 5) off of the stabilizer bar (Fig. 1).

6. Clean and dry the stabilizer bar in area where both stabilizer bar bushings (# 5) at the frame were located (Fig. 1). Clean with plain water only. Do not use any special cleaners.

7. Apply p/n 05019061AA lubricant (or equivalent) to area that was cleaned and dried.

8. Install both right and left stabilizer bar bushings (# 3 and # 5) onto the stabilizer bar (Fig. 1).

NOTE:
The lower control arms may need to be raised to accept the stabilizer bar bushing to its mating surface.





9. Install the stabilizer bar to the vehicle by loosely installing the bolts and nuts to all four brackets (# 1 and # 4) making sure that the arrows and the word "TOP on the right side of the stabilizer bar are properly oriented (Fig. 1) and (Fig. 2).

10. Align the stabilizer bar so it is centered in the vehicle (Fig. 1).

11. Tighten the stabilizer bar bolts (# 4) to the inner retainer brackets. Tighten to 20 N.m (15 ft. lbs.) (Fig. 1).

12. Lower the vehicle.

CAUTION:
The vehicle must be resting on it's wheels at normal curb weight to achieve the correct preload and geometry during Step # 13.

13. Tighten both right and left stabilizer bar bracket nuts to the lower control arm (# 2). Tighten to 20 N.m (15 ft. lbs.) (Fig. 1).

14. Install the engine lower splash shield.
