SPECIAL TOOLS/EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. If the vehicle is equipped with a luggage rack, move the rails to the full rearward position.
2. Remove the first (3) 1-25 torx screws on the forward end of the left side luggage rack rail. Lift left side rail enough to allow left applique to clear luggage rack rail.
3. Lift up on the rear inboard side of the upper applique releasing the attaching clips. Continue releasing all clips working towards the front of the vehicle.
4. Remove the front retainer clip.
5. Inspect the sheet metal at the front retainer clip cavity on vehicle roof. (Fig. 1)
6. Is the sheet metal at the front retainer clip cavity raised up at the edges or corners?
a. Yes >> proceed to next step.
b. No >> proceed to step 8.
7. Using trim stick (or equivalent), tap down with a small mallet (or equivalent), until metal is flush and applique retainer clip can lay flush on surface. (Fig. 2)
8. Clean any residual adhesive from body using 3M - General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner, p/n 08987, (or equivalent).
9. Install new upper applique clip, making sure it is seated and locked properly to the body.
10. Mark the position of the retaining clips on roof line with small pieces of masking or electrical tape, (out of the applique channel). (Fig 3)
11. Remove the backing from the adhesive on the new applique molding and set in position.
12. Gently tap the applique with a rubber mallet at the points marked with tape to seat in clips. Use only enough force to engage the applique into the retainers. (Fig 4)
13. Position the overlapping portion of the rear rail trim over the front or the rear molding.
14. Install the (3) 1-25 Torx screws. Tighten to 55 In. Lbs (6 N-m) Torque.
15. Press the applique with a roller or hand pressure to outside edge to ensure complete bond of adhesive.
16. Return luggage rack cross rails to their original position, (if equipped).
