Revised Power Transfer Unit (PTU) Installation Procedures

DISCUSSION:
The PTU installation procedures have been revised to update the PTU to Transmission installation. The Repair Procedure is the complete revised installation procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Loosen the PTU to transaxle bracket if not already loose.
2. Install new 0-ring onto PTU (Fig. 1).
3. Apply RTV, 05010884AA, to the PTU 0-ring.
NOTE:
The sequence below should always be followed when installing the PTU
4. Install PTU into position. Install the PTU-to-transmission adaptor bolts and torque to 22 N.m (30 ft. lbs.) (Fig. 2).
5. Install the PTU Heat shield.
6. Install PTU-to-transaxle bracket upper bolts and tighten to 54 N.m (40 ft. lbs.).
7. Tighten 3 PTU to transaxle bracket bolts to 100 N.m (75 ft. lbs.).
8. Install PTU/rear mount bracket. Install and tighten bolts to 54 N.m (40 ft. lbs.).
9. Install propeller shaft assembly. Refer to the detailed service information available in TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 3 - Differential & Driveline > Propeller Shaft > Installation.
10. Install right halfshaft assembly. Refer to the detailed service information available in TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 3 - Differential & Driveline > Half Shaft - Front> Installation.
11. Install engine cradle crossmember. Refer to the detailed service information available in TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 13 - Frame & Bumpers > Frame > Crossmember - Engine Cradle > Installation.
12. Install exhaust to engine Refer to the detailed service information available in TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 11 - Exhaust System > Converter - Catalytic > Installation).
13. Check and adjust PTU Fluid level. The PTU holds 0.8L (1.7 Pints.) of Mopar(R) 75W-90 Gear and Axle Lubricant.
