Engine - Installation

INSTALLATION





1. Install the engine lift fixture (2) 8984A and adapter 8984-UPD (4).
2. Position the engine in the engine compartment.
3. Lower the engine into the engine compartment and align the engine with the transmission.
4. Mate the engine and the transmission.
5. Install the two transmission to engine block mounting bolts finger tight.
6. Lower the engine assembly until the engine mount studs rest in the frame perches.





7. Install the transmission to oil pan bolts (1) Installation





8. Install the remaining transmission to engine block mounting bolts (1, 2) and tighten to 39 Nm (29 ft.lbs.) Installation
9. Install and tighten engine mount to frame nuts Engine Mount Insulator - Installation






CAUTION: It is vital the correct length bolts be used to attach the converter to the driveplate. Bolts that are too long will damage the clutch surface inside the converter.

10. Install all torque converter-to-driveplate bolts (1) by hand.
11. Verify that the torque converter is pulled flush to the driveplate and tighten the bolts to 42 Nm (31 ft. lbs.) Installation





12. Install the torque convertor access cover (1) and tighten bolt (2) to 11 Nm (8 ft.lbs.).





13. Install the starter (1) and the heat shield (4) Starter - Installation
14. Connect the starter wires.





15. Install the exhaust pipes (4) to the manifolds Catalytic Converter - Installation
16. Lower the vehicle.





17. Remove the engine lift fixture 8984A (2) and adapter 8984-UPD (4).





18. Install the left coolant tube (3).
19. Install the left and right side wiring harness.
20. Install both knock sensors.
21. Install the cam position sensor.
22. Connect the left heater hose (1).





23. Connect the heater hoses (1,2).
24. Connect the ground wires to the rear of each cylinder head.
25. Connect the oil temperature sensor.
26. Connect the oil pressure sensor.





27. Install the three power steering pump (1) mounting bolts (2) through the access holes in the pulley and tighten the bolts to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.).





28. Using the sequence shown, install the intake manifold and tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.) Intake Manifold - Installation
29. Connect the fuel supply line Service and Repair





30. Install the generator (2) and connect the electrical connectors Generator - Installation





31. Install the generator support bracket (1) Generator - Installation





32. Install the A/C compressor (3) A/C Compressor - Installation
33. Install the A/C suction line A/C Suction Line - Installation
34. Install the A/C liquid line A/C Liquid Line - Installation
35. Install the A/C discharge line at the compressor A/C Discharge Line - Installation
36. Connect the oxygen sensors.
37. Connect fuel injectors.
38. Connect the MAP sensor.
39. Connect the coolant temp sensor.
40. Connect the crank position sensor.
41. Connect the ignition coils.
42. Connect the diode connector and ground.
43. Install the accessory drive belt Serpentine Accessory Drive Belt - Installation
44. Install the radiator fan Cooling Fan - Installation
45. Connect the upper and lower radiator hose.
46. Connect the transmission oil cooler lines to the radiator.





47. Install the cowl top panel Cowl Panel Cover - Installation





48. Install the air cleaner housing (1) and clean air tube (2).Air Cleaner Body - Installation





49. Install The coolant recovery container (3) Coolant Recovery Bottle - Installation
50. Fill the engine with oil
51. Fill the cooling system Service and Repair





52. Install the engine covers (1), they snap onto fuel rails.





53. Install the belly pan (2) Belly Pan - Installation
54. Connect negative battery cable.
55. Start the engine and inspect for leaks.
56. Road test the vehicle.
