Service Procedure
A. Inspect/Replace the PCV Valve - 2.7 Liter Engine (JC / JS Models)NOTE:
The Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve is located under the intake manifold on the rear valve cover of the engine (Figure 2 or 3).
1. Open the hood.
2. Remove the plastic engine dress-up cover.
3. Remove the PCV hose from the PCV valve (Figure 2 or 3).
4. Unscrew the PCV valve from the valve cover.
5. Inspect the part number on the PCV valve:
> If the part number on the PCV valve is 04792962AA, reinstall the original PCV valve. Continue with Step 6.
> If the part number on the PCV valve is not 04792962AA or is not legible, replace the PCV valve. Continue with Step 6.
6. Install the PCV valve onto the valve cover and tighten to 35 in. lbs. (4 N.m).
7. Install the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose.
8. Install the plastic engine dress-up cover.
9. Close the hood.
B. Inspect/Replace the PCV Valve 4.0 Liter Engine (KA / RT Models)
NOTE:
The Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve is located at the rear of the right valve cover on KA models (Figure 4) and on transmission side of the rear valve cover on RT models (Figure 5).
1 Open the hood.
2. On KA models only, remove the PCV hose clamp at the PCV valve.
3. Remove the rubber hose from the PCV valve.
4. On KA models only, unscrew the PCV valve from the right side valve cover PCV adapter (Figure 4).
5. On RT models only, unscrew the PCV valve from the transmission side of the rear valve cover (Figure 5).
6. Inspect the part number on the PCV valve:
> If the part number on the PCV valve is 04792962AA, reinstall the original PCV valve. Continue with Step 7.
> If the part number on the PCV valve is not 04792962AA or is not legible, replace the PCV valve. Continue with Step 7.
7. Install the PCV valve to the valve cover and tighten to 35 in. lbs. (4 N.m).
8. Install the PCV valve hose.
9. On KA models only, install the PCV hose clamp.
10. Close the hood.
C. Complete Proof of Correction Form for California Residents:
This recall is subject to the State of California Registration Renewal/Emissions Recall Enforcement Program. Complete a Vehicle Emission Recall Proof of Correction Form (Form No. 81-016-1053) and supply it to vehicle owners residing in the state of California for proof that this recall has been performed when they renew the vehicle registration.
