Headlamp: Adjustments

IMPORTANT: Check and adjust, if necessary, headlamp aiming whenever a headlamp assembly is replaced or the vehicle has been in a collision. If the headlamp can- not be properly adjusted, replace the headlamp.

1. Open and support the hood.
2. Check the vertical adjustment indicator. The bubble should be centered at the "O" mark.
3. Check the horizontal adjustment indicator. The arrow should be centered at the "O" mark.
4. If either the vertical or the horizontal adjustment indicators is not set to "O", use a Phillips screwdriver to adjust the headlamps to "O".

5. Position the vehicle so it is 7.63 meters (25 feet) from, and square to, a white wall or a large screen in a dark area.
6. The vehicle should be parked on level ground.
7. The vehicle axis should be pointed at the centerline of the wall or screen.
8. Place a vertical piece of tape on either side of, and an equal distance from, the centerline of the wall. The distance between the two pieces of tape should be equal to the distance between the vehicle head-lamps.
9. Place a horizontal piece of tape on the wall at a height equal to the height of the headlamps.

10. Turn on the low beam headlamps.
11. Observe the top and the left edge of the high intensity zone of the low beams.
12. If the left edge is more than 102 mm (4 inches) to the left or to the right of the straight-ahead position, as marked by the vertical tape, adjust the horizontal aim of the headlamps with a Phillips screwdriver.

13. If the top edge is more than 102 mm (4 inches) above or below the correct horizontal placement, as marked by the horizontal tape, adjust the vertical aim of the headlamps with a Phillips screwdriver.
