Suspension Control ( Automatic - Electronic ): Description and Operation
GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND SYSTEM OPERATION
ICS BASIC OPERATION
Conventional suspension setting always has to be a compromise between road safety and ride comfort.
Intelligent Control Suspension (ICS) avoids any such compromise by automatically adapting shock absorber settings to actual driving situation and road condition.
For this purpose special shock absorbers with continuously variable solenoid-valves are used providing a wide span of damper settings between sportive and comfortable.
Using a lot of sensor-informations an intelligent microcomputer analyses driving situation and decides within milliseconds about the optimal setting of the solenoid valves.
ICS is working automatically.
Two different programs are available.
Comfort
Normal state. ICS always provide optimal ride comfort.
Sport
If sport-switch is pressed, ICS provides optimal setting for sportive driving.
Self-test
The ICS-lamp inside speedometer indicates system state.
After switching ignition on a self test is performed.
ICS-lamp will be lighted for some seconds.
Warning: If ICS-lamp is lighted permanent during driving ICS has detected an unnormal state. System is switched Fail Safe-Mode.
