Engine: Service and Repair
1. Remove battery and battery carrier from vehicle.
2. Remove engine hood attaching bolts, then hood.
3. Drain engine oil, transmission oil and cooling system.
4. Disconnect accelerator cable from throttle body.
5. Remove air cleaner. Label hoses before removal.
6. Remove air cleaner hose from throttle body, then the PCV hose.
7. Remove brake booster, pressure Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV) and A/C fast idle VSV vacuum hoses.
8. Disconnect resistive cords for coil, then connector between fuse block and engine wire.
9. Disconnect transmission ground cable from transmission, the engine wire clamp at lower side of igniter.
10. Disconnect igniter connector, then engine wire and cowl wire.
11. Remove clutch cable weight, then disconnect clutch cable.
12. Disconnect speedometer cable from transmission, then ground cable between engine and radiator.
13. Disconnect ground cable of alternator, then wire of A/C compressor at compressor.
14. Disconnect fuel hose at upper side of fuel filter. Use cloth to prevent fuel from splashing.
15. Remove engine harness clamp bolt at lower side of pressure sensor, then disconnect pressure sensor connector.
16. Remove radiator hoses from radiator, then heater hose from inlet pipe and intake manifold.
17. Remove vacuum hose between Bimetal VSV and charcoal canister.
18. Disconnect radiator fan motor connector, then remove radiator.
19. Remove compressor drive belt.
20. Remove compressor from bracket. Suspend compressor at body side.
21. Remove glove compartment door assembly, then disconnect engine wire connector from ECU.
22. Remove two engine harness clamps, then draw engine harness toward engine compartment.
23. Raise and support vehicle, then remove right and left engine undercovers.
24. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold, then remove exhaust pipe support.
25. Remove stabilizer bar, then lower arm from lower arm bracket.
26. Disconnect control rod, then pull out driveshaft.
27. Disconnect engine mounting front stopper and rear bracket from engine lower member.
28. Remove damper weight, then using suitable sling, support engine.
29. Remove engine mounting upper right insulator and front mounting bracket attaching nuts.
30. Disconnect engine mounting lower left insulator and rear mounting attaching bolts.
31. Remove engine front mounting bracket from cylinder head.
32. Lift engine/transmission assembly from vehicle.
33. Remove starter from transmission, then transmission to engine attaching bolts.
34. Separate engine and transmission.
35. Reverse procedure to install, torquing all bolts/nuts to specifications.
