Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair
1. Remove battery cables from battery, then the hold-down clamp.2. Remove four attaching bolts from battery carrier stay, then disconnect harness clamp and washer hose.
3. Disconnect clutch cable transmission side. Remove clutch cable weight, then fully loosen adjusting nut.
4. Disconnect clutch cable end from clutch release lever. Remove clutch cable through bracket hole.
5. Disconnect starter harness, then remove starter.
6. Disconnect speedometer cable.
7. Disconnect check engine terminal, then cowl harness clamp, then back-up lamp connector.
8. Disconnect transmission ground cable.
9. Detach three wiring harness clamps from transmission.
10. Remove all but top center transmission bolt.
11. Raise and support front of vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assembly.
12. Drain transmission oil.
13. Remove engine undercovers, then disconnect front exhaust pipe manifold side and bracket support.
14. Remove stiffener attaching bolt, then exhaust pipe bracket support attaching bolts.
15. Disconnect shift and select shaft, then extension rod from transmission housing.
16. Remove stabilizer bar, then lower arm.
17. Separate tie rod end from steering knuckle.
18. Remove the driveshafts using driveshaft puller No. 09648-87201-000 or equivalent.
19. Detach lefthand steering rack cover.
20. Support transmission using a suitable jack, remove engine mounting lower left bracket attaching bolts.
21. Remove remaining transmission attaching bolt, then lower transmission from vehicle.
