Fuel Gauge: Testing and Inspection
Fig. 1, Fuel Sending Unit Connector I.D.:
Instrument Cluster IG & FU Terminal Locations:
1. Disconnect electrical connector from fuel sender unit, located at upper portion of fuel tank.
2. Place ignition switch in the On position with fuel sender unit electrical connector disconnected. Fuel gauge should indicate E (Empty).
3. Place ignition switch in the Off position, then ground harness connector of fuel sender unit, Fig. 1.
4. Place ignition switch in the On position. With fuel sender unit harness grounded, the fuel gauge unit needle should gradually rise to the F (Full) position.
5. Place ignition switch in the Off position. The needle of the fuel gauge should remain at the F (Full) position.
6. On Charade models, remove instrument cluster and check resistance between terminals IG and FU. Resistance should be approximately 92 ohms, Fig. 3.
7. On Charade models, with electrical connector connected to instrument cluster, ensure battery voltage is applied between terminal IG and body ground, Fig. 3.
