Engine: Service and Repair
1. Remove battery and battery carrier from vehicle.
2. Remove engine hood attaching bolts, then hood.
3. Drain engine oil, transmission oil and cooling system.
4. Remove oil filter, then radiator.
5. Remove battery ground cable from vehicle body, then vane pump drive belt.
6. Remove vane pump attaching bolts, then suspend pump at body side.
7. Remove A/C belt, then A/C belt tensioner assembly.
8. Remove A/C compressor attaching bolts. Suspend compressor at front of vehicle.
9. Disconnect resistive cord from coil, then alternator wire and engine wire connectors from cowl wire. Remove respective wire clamp bolts.
10. Remove glove compartment, then disconnect engine wire connector from ECU.
11. Detach two engine wire clamps and clamp bolt, under dash panel. Pull engine wire toward engine compartment.
12. Remove all rubber hoses from engine and transmission, then brake booster hose.
13. Remove accelerator and speedometer cables from engine and transmission.
14. On automatic transmission models, remove throttle cable from engine.
15. On radio equipped models, remove engine ground cable.
16. On all models, disconnect vacuum hose from charcoal canister.
17. On manual transmission models, remove clutch cable weight, then clutch cable from transmission.
18. On automatic transmission models, remove control cable from control shaft lever.
19. On all models, remove air cleaner, then raise and support vehicle.
20. Remove engine undercover, then stabilizer bar.
21. Remove suspension lower arm from bracket, then disconnect driveshaft from transmission at inboard ball joint side.
22. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
23. On manual transmission models, remove shift and select shaft and extension rod from transmission.
24. On all models, disconnect fuel hose at upper side of fuel filter. Use cloth to prevent fuel from splashing.
25. Remove fuel return hose from pressure regulator, then disconnect heater hose.
26. Using suitable sling, support engine.
27. Remove engine right mounting bracket attaching bolts, then mounting bracket.
28. Remove bolts connecting engine mounting rear brackets No. 1 and No. 2. On automatic transmission models, remove shift control cable clamp from rear mounting bracket.
29. On manual transmission models, remove engine mounting left stay attaching bolts from engine mounting lower left insulator, then engine mounting front bracket. Remove stay.
30. On all models, remove bolt connecting engine mounting front bracket to insulator.
31. Lower engine slightly, then remove engine mounting bracket from vehicle.
32. Remove engine and transmission assembly from vehicle.
33. Remove electrical connectors from alternator, starter and radiator fan motor switch.
34. On automatic transmission models, disconnect speed sensor connector.
35. On all models, remove alternator wire clamp bolt, then check connector from bracket on transmission.
36. Remove alternator wire assembly, then heater outlet and inlet hoses.
37. Remove radiator lower hose, then starter motor.
38. Remove transmission undercover. Remove exhaust pipe support bracket and power plant stiffener with undercover.
39. On automatic transmission models, remove driveplate to torque converter attaching bolts.
40. On all models, remove engine to transmission attaching bolts, then separate transmission from engine.
41. Reverse procedure to install, torquing all bolts/nuts to specifications.
