3.6 Intermittent Codes
If the diagnostic trouble code is intermittent "Air Bag" lamp illuminates for 12 seconds. The code is stored, along with the time in minutes that it was active, and the number of times the ignition has been cycled since the fault was detected. The minimum time stored for any code is one minute. If the malfuncton is not present while performing a test procedure, the diagnostic procedures will not locate the problem. In this case, the stored code can only suggest an area to inspect.If the following codes are being set intermittently, the ASDM should be replaced:
^ Safing Sensor Open
^ Safing Sensor Short
^ Diagnostic Module # 1
^ Diagnostic Module # 2
^ Diagnostic Module # 3
^ Low Stored Energy
If any other intermittent codes are stored, check for the following:
^ Loose or corroded connections
^ Damaged components
^ Damaged wiring
If no obvious problems are found, erase stored codes and, with the key on, wiggle the wire harness and connectors. Recheck for codes periodically as you work through the system. This procedure may uncover a difficult to locate malfunction.
