Dashboard / Instrument Panel: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Open lower console door, then remove lower console mounting screws.
3. Slide lower console rearward from instrument panel supports, then remove lower console from vehicle.
4. Remove lower heat duct to instrument panel supports attaching screw.
5. Remove bolts retaining lower instrument panel supports to instrument panel and floor pan.

6. Remove lower instrument panel supports from instrument panel.
7. Disconnect air bag module electrical connectors.
8. Remove front door sill and A-pillar trim covers.
9. Open glove box door, then disengage stop cord from glove box door.
10. Pivot glove box downward to disengage hinges from instrument panel, then remove glove box from vehicle.
11. Disconnect antenna lead connector through glove box opening.
12. Remove steering column lower trim panel, then the stiffener panel.

13. Disconnect two 40-pin connectors from junction block at lefthand side of steering column.
14. Disconnect instrument panel harness connector from body control module.

15. Disconnect two 40-pin connectors from junction block at righthand side of steering column.
16. Remove pinch bolt from steering column coupler, then disconnect steering column from lower shaft.
17. Remove instrument panel mounting bolts from brake pedal support.
18. Disconnect gearshift cable from gear selector lever, then remove gearshift cable and bracket from steering column.
19. Disconnect hood release handle from instrument panel, then position cable and handle aside.

20. Using a suitable trim stick or a wide and flat pry bar, disengage clips at rear edge of top instrument panel covers.
21. Disconnect wiring harness connector from message center.
22. Pull top cover rearward to disengage clips and release top cover from instrument panel.
23. Using a suitable trim stick or a wide and flat pry bar, pry right and left instrument panel end covers from instrument panel.
24. Disconnect wiring harness connectors from heating and air conditioning unit through glove box opening.

25. Remove instrument panel to cowl panel upper attaching bolts, then loosen but do not remove lower cowl panel to instrument panel bolts.
26. Remove instrument panel to body attaching bolts located below windshield.
27. Remove instrument panel assembly from vehicle.
28. Reverse procedure to install.
