NO: 23-47-95

GROUP: Body

DATE: Jul. 28, 1995

SUBJECT:
Creak/Squeak Noise At Front Door

MODELS:
1996 (NS) Town & Country/Caravan/Voyager

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to St. Louis built vehicles ("B" in the 11th character position of the VIN.)

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Front door glass run tertiary seal lip may creak/squeak along the line of contact to the door opening.

DIAGNOSIS:

Verify the condition by quickly turning the steering wheel back and forth between the 2 o'clock and 10 o'clock positions while driving the vehicle at approximately 5 MPH. Creak/Squeak noise is most likely to be heard at the upper "B"-post corner, but can occur at any point on the door header or "A"-post surface. Isolate the front door glass run tertiary seal lip from the door header and "A"-post surface with masking tape, rag or something similar and try to induce the noise again. If the creak/squeak noise is eliminated, perform the Repair Procedure.

2. Remove the door trim panel and pull the front 1/3 of the water shield away from the inner door panel.
3. Remove the front door speaker.
4. Remove the screw securing the lower front bracket of the glass run weatherstrip from the door inner panel.
5. Remove the inner belt weatherstrip.
6. Disengage the clip holding the glass run weatherstrip to the upper rear corner of the door frame above the applique.
7. Pull the glass run weatherstrip from the glass run channel at the top of the window frame.

9. Pull the glass run weatherstrip from the glass run channel at the front of the window frame and out of the door.
10. Remove clear polyurethane tape (if any is present) from the door opening surface where the front door glass run tertiary seal lip contacts the body when the door is closed.
11. Clean the body surface where the tape was removed from in Step 7 with a mild solvent such as mineral spirits or alcohol. Be sure any/all residual adhesive is removed.
12. Insert the front portion of the glass run weatherstrip into the door and down so the glass is in the run of the weatherstrip and the wiring inside the door is between the glass run weatherstrip and the front of the door. Align the hole in the mounting bracket of the glass run weatherstrip with the hole in the inner door panel. Position the glass run weatherstrip on to the channel along the front of the window frame. Ensure the glass run weatherstrip lip is pulled over the front edge of the window frame and the flap at the beltline is on the outside of the door cavity.
13. Install the screw securing the lower front of the glass run weatherstrip to the door inner panel. Torque the screw to 85-125 in. lbs.
14. Position the rear portion of the glass run weatherstrip so the rear edge of the glass is in the run of the weatherstrip. Push the glass run weatherstrip down into the door until its upper rear corner aligns with the upper rear corner of the window frame, then push the glass run weatherstrip into the channel along the rear of the window frame.
15. Push the glass run weatherstrip into the channel along the top of the window frame.
16. Transfer the glass run weatherstrip clip from the old weatherstrip to the new weatherstrip and engage it in the slot above the applique at the rear of the door.
17. Cycle the window glass up and down several times and check for smooth window operation and fit of the glass run weatherstrip. Adjust as necessary.
18. Install the front door speaker.
19. Install the inner belt weatherstrip.
20. Install the water shield and door trim panel.
21. Install the three piece window frame trim weatherstrip.
22. Repeat steps 1-21 to replace the other side front door glass run.
