1996 (GS) Chrysler Voyager (European Market)
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Vehicle operator complaint of underbody Buzz, Squeak and Rattles (BSR's).
DIAGNOSIS:
NOTE:
BEFORE INVESTIGATING ANY OTHER SOURCE OF REAR END UNDERBODY NOISE, LOOSEN AND RE-TIGHTEN THE SPARE TIRE WINCH. THE WINCH HAS A SLIP CLUTCH AND CANNOT BE OVER TIGHTENED. DO NOT USE ANY TYPE OF POWER TOOL TO OPERATE THE SPARE TIRE WINCH.
Raise the vehicle on a frame contact hoist.
Chuckle or thumping noise occurs when the vehicle is first driven after being stationary for several hours and while going over small sharp bumps (like expansion strips in concrete roads) at speed of 15 MPH or less, inspect the shocks for P/N's 4862371 or 4862372. If the vehicle is equipped with either P/N, perform Repair Procedure 1.
Rattle noise occurs when the vehicle is driven over washboard surfaces, railroad tracks, or potholes. Inspect the exhaust system for proper alignment. Particular areas to pay close attention to and look for witness marks are: Tail spout to rear crossmember beneath the liftgate opening (more likely on long wheel base vehicles); Rear of resonator to frame rail; Resonator body to resonator body side hanger rod head; Resonator body to anti-sway bar link upper attaching bolt (short wheel base vehicles only); Loose exhaust support fasteners. If any exhaust system related BSR sources are discovered, perform Repair Procedure 2.
Rattle or thumping noise coming from under the middle row seats when the vehicle is driven over rough roads. Try to verify the noise by slamming the sliding door closed (with all vehicle windows closed) and listen for noise from outside the vehicle near the fuel tank. If the rattle/thumping noise is heard, perform Repair Procedure 3.
Clunking noise coming from the front of the vehicle when turning into a driveway or any other maneuver that would cause body roll, or if the rattle/clunk noise is constant while driving, perform Repair Procedure 4.
