DISCUSSION:

Vehicles equipped with optional Vehicle Theft Security System/Vehicle Theft Alarm (VTSS/VTA) MUST have had the engine started and allowed to run for 6 seconds or longer, 20 times before the VTSS/VTA system is fully functional.

For vehicles that have not had 20 start/run sequences, when the VTSS/VTA is arming the "Alarm Set" lamp in the message center will illuminate continuously (does not flash) for approximately 16 seconds then go out. If the VTSS/VTA is activated, the exterior lamps will flash, but horn will not sound and the engine will start.

After the vehicle has had 20 or more start/run sequences, when the VTSS/VTA is
arming the "Alarm Set" lamp in the message center will flash for approximately 16
seconds then go out. If the VTSS/VTA is activated the engine will be disabled, the
exterior and "Alarm Set" lamps will flash and the horn will sound.

Dealers should ensure that 20 or more start/run sequences have been completed prior
to delivery of the vehicle.

NOTE:
WHENEVER A POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) IS REPLACED, THE ENGINE MUST BE STARTED AND ALLOWED TO RUN FOR 6 SECONDS OR LONGER, 20 TIMES BEFORE THE VTSS/VTA SYSTEM WILL BE FULLY FUNCTIONAL AGAIN.

WHENEVER A BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) IS REPLACED,
VTSS/VTA MUST BE INITIATED WITH THE SCAN TOOL (DRB III)
UNDER THE BODY/MISCELLANEOUS MENU.
