Intermittent Operation Of The Sliding Door Power Lock(s)

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 08-40-95, DATED SEP. 15, 1995, WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM YOUR FILES. REVISION INCLUDES ADDITION OF PARTS REQUIRED AND CHANGES TO THE REPAIR PROCEDURE. ALL REVISIONS ARE HIGHLIGHTED WITH **ASTERISKS**.

**NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO OCT. 27, 1995 (MDH 1027XX) AND EQUIPPED WITH POWER DOOR LOCKS.**

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Sliding door(s) may not always lock/unlock when using the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) key fob or the power door lock switch.

DIAGNOSIS:

Inspect the contacts on the rear to the "B" post and the plunger contacts on the sliding door for black deposits. If black deposits exist, perform the Repair Procedure.

**PARTS REQUIRED:

AR 4707743 Contact Assembly, Right and Left Side
1 4707744 Plunger Assembly, Right Side
AR 4707745 Plunger Assembly, Left Side

NOTE:
THESE PART NUMBERS MAY BE VISUALLY IDENTIFIED FROM PREVIOUS PART NUMBERS BY THEIR NICKEL FINISH INSTEAD OF TIN FINISH AND BY A WHITE DOT STICKER ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE PART.**

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves installing revised sliding door power lock contact and plunger assemblies.

1. Remove the screw attaching the sliding door power lock contacts to the right side "B" post. Pull the contact assembly from the "B" post and disconnect the wiring connector.

2. Connect a revised contact assembly (P/N 4707743) to the wiring connector. Position the contact assembly into the "B" post and attach it with the screw removed in step 1.

3. Disengage the lower rear portion the sliding door upper frame trim to gain access and remove the screw attaching the upper rear corner of the sliding door trim panel to the door. Some vehicles may have screws at the bottom corners of the trim panel that must be removed.

4. Disengage the fasteners/clips holding the sliding door trim panel to the door and separate the trim panel from the vehicle.

5. Peel back the watershield as necessary, to gain access to the two clips securing the plunger assembly wiring to the door and the wiring connector at the sliding door power lock motor.

6. Disconnect the wiring connector from the sliding door power lock motor and disengage the two clips securing the plunger assembly wiring to the door.

7. Remove the screw attaching the plunger assembly to the sliding door and separate the plunger assembly from the door.

8. Install revised plunger assembly (P/N 4707744), refer to the illustration for proper wire routing and retention of the plunger wiring to the door. Use the screw removed in step 7 to attach the plunger assembly to the door and connect the wiring connector to the sliding door power lock motor.





9. Install the sliding door trim panel and engage the lower rear portion of the sliding door upper frame trim to the door.

10. Repeat steps 1 through 9 for the left sliding door, if equipped. Use revised plunger assembly P/N 4707745 for the left door.
