Interior - Front Door Scuff Plate(s) Loose

SUBJECT:
Loose Right And/Or Left Front Door Scuff Plate

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves inspecting the right and left front door scuff plate and if necessary installing foam spacers.

MODELS:

2011 (WD) Durango

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles built before March 14, 2011 (MDHO3I4XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience a loose right and/or left front door scuff plate.

DIAGNOSIS:
If the customer describes the symptom, perform the Repair Procedure.





PARTS REQUIRED:

NOTE:
One piece of foam tape will service three scuff plates.





SPECIAL TOOLS/EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:





1. Inspect the right and left door scuff plates for any bowing and/or poor retention. Was there any bowing and/or lack of retention at the middle of the scuff plate (Fig 1)?

a. Yes >>> Proceed to Step # 2.

b. No >>> This bulletin does not apply, further diagnosis required.

2. Remove the scuff plate. Refer to the detailed removal procedures available in DealerConnect > TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 23-Body > Interior > PLATE, Scuff, Door > Removal.





3. Pull back the door weatherstrip seal (Fig. 2).





4. Cut four 7/16 X 1-1/16 pieces of foam from p/n 5019058AA for each suspect scuff plate (Fig. 3).

5. Pull up on the false floor using a trim stick (Fig. 4) and insert foam pieces at the designated areas in (Fig. 5) underneath the false floor.

6. Using firm hand pressure reinstall scuff plate(s). Refer to the detailed installation procedures available in DealerConnect > TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 23-Body > Interior > PLATE, Scuff, Door > Installation.

7. Verify the scuff plate is fully seated. If the scuff plate will not fully seat this bulletin does not apply, further diagnosis required.

8. Re-secure the door weatherstrip.

9. Return the vehicle to the customer.
