Engine: Service and Repair
1982 - 83 EAGLEOn these models, the engine is removed separately from the transmission.
1. Refer to the 1982 Concord and Spirit Engine, Replace procedure and perform steps 1 through 14.
2. Remove left front engine mount bracket to axle housing attaching bolts.
3. Raise and support vehicle, then remove splash shield and disconnect both half shafts from front axle. Compress half shafts inward, toward wheels and secure to frame side sills with wire.
4. Mark front drive shaft so it can be installed in the same position, then remove front driveshaft.
5. Using a suitable jack, support front axle, then disconnect axle at righthand tube support and at pinion end of axle.
6. Disconnect axle vent tube, then remove front axle.
7. Remove axle support bracket from cylinder block, then remove starter motor and shims.
8. Disconnect wiring from distributor, oil pressure sending unit and back-up light switch.
9. Disconnect fuel hose from steel line.
10. On models with manual transmission, disconnect clutch release cylinder from clutch housing. Position a wooden block between transfer case and skid plate, then remove clutch housing to engine attaching bolts.
11. On models with automatic transmission, disconnect manual linkage, then remove converter housing inspection cover and remove converter to flywheel attaching nuts. Remove converter housing to engine attaching bolts.
12. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold, then lower vehicle.
13. Remove engine mount attaching bolts, then attach a suitable engine lifting device and raise engine slightly.
14. Remove left engine mount bracket, then remove engine from vehicle.
15. Reverse procedure to install.
