Throttle Position Sensor: Adjustments

NOTE: Do not perform this adjustment unless diagnosis indicates that the TPS sensor is need of adjustment or if air horn, float bowl or TPS sensor replacement is necessary.

1. Drill a 5/64 inch hole, 1/16 to 1/8 inch deep, in plug covering TPS adjusting screw, Fig. 13.
2. Using a small slide hammer or other suitable tool remove plug.
3. Disconnect TPS electrical connector and connect jumper wires between connector terminals, Fig. 14. Use 16, 18 or 20 gauge wire approximately 6 inches long for jumper wires.
4. Connect a suitable digital voltmeter between center terminal and bottom terminal.
5. With ignition switch in the On position, engine not running, A/C off and throttle at curb idle position, turn TPS adjusting screw until a voltmeter reading of 0.26 volts is obtained.
6. After completing adjustment, install replacement cup plug over TPS adjusting screw opening.
