Exhaust Gas Recirculation: Service and Repair


EGR VALVE, REPLACE
1. Disconnect vacuum hoses.
2. Remove retaining nuts, then remove EGR valve and gasket.
3. Discard gasket and clean mating surfaces.
4. Reverse procedure to install using a new gasket.

EGR CTO SWITCH, REPLACE
1. Drain coolant from radiator.
2. Disconnect vacuum hoses from switch.
3. Using a 7/8 inch wrench, remove switch.
4. Reverse procedure to install. Add coolant to cooling system. On 6 cylinder engines, removing the temperature switch will allow air to be purged from cooling system.

RESTRICTOR PLATE, REPLACE
The restrictor plate located between the spacer and the intake manifold can be removed after removing the EGR valve. The stainless steel restrictor plate is calibrated for a particular engine-exhaust system combination and should never be altered or replaced with one of a different calibration.
