Electric Assist Choke Servicing & Testing
SERVICEThe electric assist choke system is not adjustable, however, the choke linkage and shaft must move freely hot or cold. Carefully inspect choke rods for bending, as a bent rod will not operate properly. When installing carburetor, use caution to prevent entrapment of the choke rod. If the rod becomes trapped, release it by carburetor removal, rather than using force.
DIAGNOSIS
4-150 & 6-258 ENGINES
1. Disconnect electric assist choke wire from choke housing.
2. Connect one lead of a test light to spade connector at choke housing and other lead of test light to choke wire.
3. Disconnect choke heat tube at choke housing and start engine.
4. Using a small thermometer, position bulb end of thermometer inside heat tube passage of choke housing.
5. Note thermometer reading and observe test light. Lamp should be out when 60 - 80 °F is noted on thermometer. Lamp should be off when temperature readings are below or above those specified previously. If test light does not go on at all, check 7 volt supply from alternator.
6. If test light does not go on within the 60 - 80 °F range, replace choke cover.
