Component Tests and General Diagnostics
System diagnosis can be performed using Tester DRBII with Jeep/Eagle adapter. The adapter is required as diagnostics on Jeep/Eagle products are performed off-board. Adapter connects to the vehicle by two separate connectors, a 6 pin and a 15 pin, located in the engine compartment. See Connector Pin diagrams
When operating properly, all character positions on the display should briefly light. After a 3 second message the DRBII menu screen will be displayed. Pressing the F3 key will bring up the ``How To Use'' help screens.
Upon completion of all vehicle and option information, a confirming menu will be displayed. Pressing the Confirm option informs the tester that entered information is correct, allowing the DRBII to proceed to the Main menu.
The Main menu presents all diagnostic functions available through the DRBII for the vehicle application entered. At this time, functions available are system tests, state displays, and adjustments.
System tests are interactive, functional tests of a particular system. During a system test, the display provides instruction to the technician (Turn Key On, Shift to Park) and monitors signals in the diagnostic connector. If the DRBII continues to display the same instruction after the operation requested has been performed, the technician should press the Enter key. This will generate a fault. Some tests require longer periods before the circuit is automatically faulted. In such cases, the keyboard is locked out until correct operating conditions have been met and a fault is displayed. For fault code diagnosis refer to Fault Code Charts 1000--1223
If instructed to follow an ECU checkout procedure, disconnect ECU connector, then clean and inspect connector for bent or broken pins. Reconnect connector and test. If vehicle fails with same message, replace ECU.
If after performing a system test the DRBII was unable to determine a fault, the message ``Vehicle Passes Electrical Test'' will be displayed.
