Fuel Injector: Description and Operation
Fuel Injector:
The fuel injectors are solenoid operated valves which are energized and controlled by the Electronic Control Unit (ECU). When the ECU grounds an injector solenoid, which has a constant voltage supply, a spring loaded ball is lifted off its seat and fuel is sprayed into the combustion chamber through a spray orifice in an even, conical pattern. The ECU determines the length of injector on time necessary to maintain the ideal air/fuel mixture based on a programmed response to various sensor inputs. This time frame is called "injector pulse width".
