Cylinder Head Assembly: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove drive belts from engine, then drain cooling system
3. Remove crankshaft pulley attaching bolt, then remove pulley.
4. Remove intake and exhaust manifolds and brackets.
5. Remove timing belt, refer to TIMING BELT.
6. Remove cylinder head cover.

7. Using tool No. Mot. 855 to hold camshaft sprocket in position, loosen and remove camshaft sprocket attaching bolt, then remove camshaft sprocket, Fig. 1.

8. Remove all cylinder head attaching bolts except bolt (G), Fig. 2. Loosen bolt (G) one turn.
9. Place a wooden block on cylinder head at position (H), Fig. 2,then tap wooden block with hammer to loosen cylinder head from cylinder liners.
10. Remove remaining cylinder head bolt, then remove cylinder head.

11. Install clamp tool Mot. 588 or equivalent on cylinder block to hold cylinder liners in position, Fig. 3.

12. Reverse procedure to install. Torque cylinder bolts in sequence shown in Fig. 4 to torque listed at the end of this section. When installing timing belt, refer to TIMING BELT.
