Ignition Switch: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.2. Remove screws and instrument panel lower cover.
3. Unfasten horn button and disconnect wires to remove.
4. Noting position of reference mark on the end of the steering shaft, remove steering wheel nut and slide steering wheel off shaft.
5. Disconnect electrical connector and remove steering wheel.
6. Remove turn signal canceler cam by unhooking tabs and sliding canceler off steering column. If vehicle is equipped with tilt wheel, remove tilt wheel control arm.
7. Remove upper and lower headlight pod retaining screws. There are two small retaining clips on the headlight and A/C-heater pods that may fall off when pod is removed.
8. Remove A/C-heater housing pod retaining screws, then carefully remove pod back.
9. Carefully remove headlight and A/C-heater pod.
Removing Ignition Switch Trim Ring:
10. Remove ignition switch trim ring by prying it away from pod housing.
11. Remove retaining screws and the headlight pod back.
Removing Headlight & A/C-heater Pods:
12. Remove screws from housing, then pass pods through openings in pod housing and remove housing.
13. Remove screw, then separate and remove lower column shroud.
14. Remove upper column shroud attaching screws and the shroud.

15. Remove ignition switch retaining screws and separate ignition switch from lock cylinder housing.
16. Cut tie straps, then remove screw and wire harness anchor.
17. Loosen hold-down nut in center of steering column connector.
18. Separate pod connectors from steering column connector by placing a flat blade screwdriver between the connectors to disengage locking tab.
19. Push on the wire side of headlight pod connector and slide the connector out of channels of steering column connector.
20. Remove ignition switch and harness.
21. Reverse procedure to install, ensuring steering wheel is aligned with reference mark on steering shaft. Torque steering wheel nut to 52 ft. lbs.
