SUPPLEMENTAL SERVICE MANUAL INFORMATION
The power steering pump used on 1989 Summit vehicles, (built after March 1, 1989 with 1600 DOHC engines), has been changed from a three piece housing to a two piece aluminum housing. This new pump assembly (PN MB636382) can be used in prior model vehicles equipped with three piece housing pumps, if replaced together with new bracket mounting bolts (PN MF244881). However, if servicing the three piece pump continue to use the previous service packages.
Following are the component and service procedures for the new style pump:
Refer to Figure 1 for the mounting bolt torque used on the aluminum housing. For additional torque specifications and assembly instructions, see pages 19-38 through 19-43 of the 1989 Colt/Summit Service Manual Publication number 81-270-9011.

2. Using Figure 2 as a guide, disassemble pump.
3. Reverse the disassembly procedure to reassemble the pump.
4. The boxed "N" in Figure 2 indicates parts which are NOT reusable.
5. A new seal kit as indicated in Figure 3 (PN MB636433) has been released for use with the new pump.
6. This power steering pump has been in use since the beginning of March, 1989.
7. This pump is totally interchangeable with the previous pump providing that it is changed as a complete assembly with new mounting bolts (PN MF244881).
