Service Procedure
1. Move the front seats as far forward as possible.2. Remove the center console tray (Figure 1).
3. Remove the two (2) front console screws (Figure 1).
4. Remove the four (4) lower rear console screws (Figure 1).
5. Disconnect the mirror switch (if equipped) then remove the console and set it aside.
6. Remove the left (driver) side automatic shoulder belt turning loop from the seat belt buckle assembly mounting bracket (Figure 2).
7. Remove the left (driver) seat belt buckle assembly from the seat (Figure 2).
8. Disconnect the buckle switch electrical connector under the front center of the driver's seat.
9. Discard the buckle assembly.
10. Route the switch wiring of the supplied buckle assembly under the driver's seat and secure the wire harness to the bottom of the seat cushion, then connect the electrical connector.
NOTE:
Be sure to use the correct parts package for the vehicle being serviced. 1989 MY buckle assemblies are not interchangeable with 1990/1991 MY buckle assemblies.
11. Attach the buckle assembly to the driver seat. Tighten the bolt to 32 ft-lbs (45 N.m).
12. Install the left (driver) side automatic shoulder belt turning loop onto the buckle assembly mounting bracket (Figure 2). Tighten the bolt to 100 in-lbs (11.5 N.m).
13. Remove the right (passenger) side automatic shoulder belt turning loop from the seat belt buckle assembly mounting bracket (Figure 2).
14. Remove and discard the right (passenger) seat belt buckle assembly (Figure 2).
NOTE:
The passenger seat belt buckle is not equipped with a switch.
15. Attach the supplied buckle assembly to the passenger seat. Tighten the bolt to 32 ft-lbs (45 N.m).
16. Install the right (passenger) side automatic shoulder belt turning loop onto the buckle assembly mounting bracket (Figure 2). Tighten the bolt to 100 in-lbs (11.5 N.m).
17. Reconnect the mirror switch (if equipped) and install the center console.
18. Install the four (4) lower rear console screws (Figure 1).
19. Install the two (2) front console screws (Figure 1).
20. Install the center console tray (Figure 1).
21. Verify that the seat belt warning system (lamp and buzzer) operate properly.
