Dashboard / Instrument Panel: Service and Repair
1. Disarm airbag, refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and Repair.Fig. 66 Exploded View Of Center Console Assembly W/Passive Restraints:

2. On models equipped with passive restraints, proceed as follows:
a. Remove ashtray by pulling up and out of ashtray receiver.
b. Remove one screw attaching ashtray receiver, disconnect wire from cigar lighter, then remove receiver.
c. Remove two screws attaching front of console to bracket.
d. Remove three screws attaching armrest assembly to console, then remove armrest by pulling up and out of console.
e. Remove two screws attaching rear of console to bracket.
f. Reach inside console and push out seat belt guides, then remove console.
g. Remove two bolts attaching pivot bracket to knee bolster.
h. Loosen, but do not remove, two pivot bracket bolts.
i. Remove one screw and two Torx bolts attaching front console bracket to floor, then slide console bracket back.
j. Remove two screws attaching attaching center of knee bolster to instrument panel.
k. Remove one screw located at top of knee bolster to left of steering column, then remove one screw attaching air duct to knee bolster.
l. Remove both knee bolster end caps.
m. Remove one screw attaching bottom of garnish moulding to instrument panel.
n. Remove four nuts attaching ends of knee bolster to instrument panel.
o. Move knee bolster rearward far enough to gain access to parking brake release handle screws, remove two parking brake handle attaching screws, then the knee bolster.

3. On models less passive restraints, remove three attaching screws, then the instrument panel lower cover.
4. On all models, remove steering column, refer to Steering and Suspension/Steering/Steering Column/Service and Repair.

5. Remove defroster grille, then the four upper instrument panel attaching bolts.

6. Loosen, but do not remove, one nut located near parking brake release handle, and one nut located on passenger side kick panel.

7. On models less passive restraints, proceed as follows:
a. Remove two parking brake release handle attaching screws, the lower the parking brake release handle assembly.
b. Remove ashtray by releasing tab, then ashtray pulling forward and out of instrument panel.
c. Disconnect cigar lighter connectors, then remove one screw from ashtray cavity.

8. On all models, remove one bolt from brake sled.

9. Disconnect all electrical connectors shown.

10. On models less passive restraints, remove two bolts attaching instrument panel to center floor bracket.

11. On all models, open glove box door, remove six glove box liner attaching screws, then the glove box liner.

12. Reach through glove box opening and remove plastic fastener attaching interior temperature sensor.

13. Disconnect interior temperature sensor by pressing tabs together, and pressing pressing air temperature sensor hose rearward.
14. Carefully lift instrument panel up and rearward to disengage, then remove the instrument panel.
15. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. When installing instrument panel, position instrument panel ensuring instrument panel mounting brackets engage studs on kick panels.
b. Ensure wire harness is routed behind center mounting bracket.
c. Connect all electrical connections and interior temperature sensor.
d. Torque nuts and bolts attaching steering column to instrument panel to 35 ft. lbs.
e. Refer to MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG ARMING/DISARMING to reactivate airbag.
