Fuel Filter: Service and Repair

Fuel Pump/sending Unit Assembly:




IN TANK FUEL FILTER
REMOVAL
1. Remove the fuel tank.
2. Remove the fuel pump/sending unit assembly.
3. Pull filter off of pump/sending unit assembly.

INSTALLATION
1. Push new filter onto the pump/sending unit assembly.
2. Install the pump/sending unit in fuel tank.
3. Install the fuel tank.
4. Turn the key to the ON position to pressurize system, and check for leaks.

PRIMARY FUEL FILTER
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal, and remove the fuel tank cap.
2. Raise and support the vehicle for access.
3. Wrap quick-connect connector with a shop towel before disconnecting to contain spray and absorb any fuel spilled when lines are disconnected.
4. Remove fuel filter lines from the inlet and outlet fuel nipples.
5. Remove the retaining strap bolt, and remove the filter.

INSTALLATION
1. Install the new filter in the retaining strap. Check the direction of flow by the markings on the filter, and ensure it is correct.
2. Install the retaining strap bolt, and torque to 12 N-m (8.8 lb-ft)
3. Install the inlet and outlet lines.
4. Lower the vehicle. Connect the negative battery terminal, and replace the fuel tank cap.
5. Turn key to the on position to pressurize the system, and check for leaks.
