Air Temperature Sensor ( Ambient / Intake ): Description and Operation
Manifold Air Temperature (MAT) Sensor:
The Manifold Air Temperature (MAT) sensor is mounted in the throttle body adapter at the rear of the intake manifold. The sensor element extends into the manifold airstream to measure the temperature of the air passing through the intake manifold. As the temperature changes, the resistance of the sensor changes. The Engine Control Unit (ECU) reads the resistance changes and uses this information to calculate the proper air/fuel ratio for the engine.
