Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch (For Computer): Testing and Inspection
Coolant Temperature Sensor:
1. Disconnect the harness connector from the coolant temperature sensor.
2. Using a high impedance digital volt/ohm meter, measure the resistance of the coolant temperature sensor. Compare readings taken with the chart below. Replace the coolant temperature sensor if the readings do not match.
TEMPERATURE (F) TEMPERATURE (C) RESISTANCE
212 100 185
160 70 450
100 38 1600
70 20 3400
40 4 7500
20 -7 13,500
0 -18 25,000
-40 -40 100,700
Engine Control Unit (ECU) Connector ID:
3. Check the resistance of the wire harness between the engine controller wiring harness connector terminal "D3" and the sensor connector terminal, and wire harness terminal "C-10" to the sensor connector terminal. Repair the harness if the resistance is more than one ohm.
