Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)/Automatic Idle Speed (AIS) Motor:
The Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), mounted on the throttle body, is spined to the throttle shaft. The sensor receives a reference voltage of approximately five volts. The sensor is a variable resistor and operates between 1 volt (idle) and 4.5 volts (wide open throttle). The engine controller receives the voltage signal from the throttle position sensor and converts it to throttle shaft angle opening. The engine controller uses the throttle position sensor signal to determine engine operating parameters.
