Fuel Filter: Description and Operation

Fuel Pump/sending Unit Assembly:
The first fuel filter in the system is located on the fuel pump unit in the fuel tank, and generally does not require service. It is replaceable if necessary.
Primary Fuel Filter
Fuel Filter Location:
The primary fuel filter used is an in-line type sealed unit located between the fuel pump and fuel injectors. The filter is found under the vehicle in front of the fuel tank. The filter protects the injectors from dirt, water, and other foreign contamination, and should be replaced at specified intervals.
LATE MODEL VEHICLES
Inlet Fuel Strainer
Fuel Pump And Strainer:
The inlet fuel strainer is mounted on the bottom of the pump/sender module, and strains the fuel to remove any larger impurities before the fuel enters the pump.
