Fuel Pump: Service and Repair

Fuel Hose Identification:

REMOVAL

Note: The fuel tank must be removed from the vehicle to remove the fuel pump/sending unit assembly.
1. Loosen the pump/sending unit clamp, and
2. Lift the unit out of the tank.
3. Discard the mounting gasket.

INSTALLATION

1. Position the new gasket on the fuel pump/sending unit flange.
2. Lower the pump/sending unit into the fuel tank.
3. Rotate pump/sending unit so that the fuel and vapor tubes point to the right side of the tank when the tank is installed in the vehicle.
4. Push the pump/sending unit down to compress the spring, install the clamp and tighten.
5. Install the fuel tank.
6. Use the DRB II to select the Automatic Shut Down (ASD) Fuel System Test to pressurize fuel system and check for leaks. Refer to Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Testing and Inspection/Procedures

CAUTION: Unless the test is stopped or the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position the fuel pump relay and the ASD relay will remain energized for 7 minutes by the ASD Fuel System Test.
